Beautiful Flower by India Arie

Image
She is one of my all-time favourite singers. I love almost every song of hers. This is one of the many which touch my heart everytime I listen to it. The lyric's very inspiring and empowering, and her voice...mesmerising... This one's for you. Enjoy... :) I'm out to get her 'Testimony' soon.

Dark Knight Rules

Loved it. I think Heath Ledger did a fantastic job. But I still prefer Jack Nicholson in that role. Nobody...just nobody can do 'that' smile better than Nicholson! And oh...that wicked look paired with that laugh....it got me hooked me right from the beginning. Christian Bale still looked just as good as he had always, but well, I think he fares better in roles like The Machinist and American Psycho. Anyway, the only reason why I wanted to watch this movie was because I'm quite a fan of Heath Ledger and Christian Bale ;) (dear, please don't kill me hahahaha =P) But overall, this is a great movie. Go watch it!

More Thoughts on Abortion...

The 'debate' continues.... By Denis: Banning abortion basically aims to achieve one thing: limiting the parents' lives in favour of the embryo's. If you admit that forcing a woman to abort against her wishes is wrong, then by the same token you cannot force her NOT to abort. This is not only about choice, but about life as well. Giving birth to a child comes with consequences and responsibilities. Forcing a woman to give birth when she and her family are not prepared, willing, equipped or able to raise the child often brings more harm than good to the lives of both the child and the parents. What about the embryo's rights, some people will inevitably ask. I think it has as much right as a chicken's liver. The fact that it could grow into the next Einstein if allowed to live is irrelevant. As Leonard Peikoff, a philosopher, puts it: 'If we are to accept the equation of the potential with the actual and call the embryo an "unborn child," we could, w

Regina's Fav Reads

Fatherhood by Bill Cosby – It's entertaining and hilarious. You could almost 'see' and 'hear' Cosby actually saying those words to you. Read it during my school days. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I wanted to be a father, but it was out of curiosity that I read the book. My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult – It was well written, but in a way I also hated it because it was the only book that ever made me bawl my eyes out! From Publishers Weekly. The difficult choices a family must make when a child is diagnosed with a serious disease are explored with pathos and understanding in this 11th novel by Picoult (Second Glance, etc.). The author, who has taken on such controversial subjects as euthanasia (Mercy), teen suicide (The Pact) and sterilization laws (Second Glance), turns her gaze on genetic planning, the prospect of creating babies for health purposes and the ethical and moral fallout that results. Picoult ably explores a complex subject with bravad

(Samantha's dress is my favourite!) My frenz, my bf and I got free tickets to watch a special screening of Sex and The City, thanks to Nuvafemme. The screening was on 24th July 2008. I never thought that I'd enjoy SATC so much. It was entertaining, touching, interesting and inspiring (I don't mean the clothes. I don't like most of what Carrie wore. The bird on her head? What on earth was she or the stylist thinking? There were many others too. Another one was the one she walked into a store with Charlotte to shop for her work desk. I thought that outfit looked ghastly man. It made her look fat and pregnant! The opening dress? Hated it. But I liked what they wore when they were having their dinner at Mexico. All of them looked stunningly beautiful.) Ok anyway, the reason I'm writing this is to respond to SATC's review in The Star. Sorry, forgot her name, but whoever you are, I didn't quite agree with everything you commented, but well, respect your opinion.

Do You Condone Abortion?

Image
Recently a friend of mine, Lily*, sent me an SMS about her friend who sought her for help to pay part of the cost of abortion. Lily was reluctant to do so, because if she helped her, it would mean that she 'approves' the abortion. If you were Lily, would you have helped? Answer is quite obvious isn't it? A definite and a big No No! Well, people usually say, things are easier said than done. Try put Lily's friend in your shoes: 1) You're Chinese 2) The unborn is a South African's 3) You're in your early 20's 4) You're hardly financially stable 5) Your parents will disown you for sure So what good will it do you if you keep the baby? (No, don't even rely on the dude who bonked you, coz he ain't admitting the baby's his.) Let's weigh the pros and cons to make it easier. Pros of abortion: 1) You and your life are saved. 2) Parents won't know about it. In fact, nobody will ever know about it. 3) You can continue living like nothing has

Thank you for all your care and concern

Had some really bad days lately especially yesterday. It's a long story. To cut it short the matter has been resolved. Thank you all for your caring words. At least I know there are true friends out there who still care. Oh yeah, to those who have been asking, my bf and I will be checking out our wedding pictures tomorrow. Till then, have a great weekend!

My Duplets!

Hahahaha I am so darn happy now....Went to Pavilion today with my aunt and parents, and guess what I got???? Look below!!! Although they aren't Moleskines, they are just as good, if not better than Moleskine. First, the cover is 'prettier' than Moleskine's...Second, I love the paper texture (can't compare to Moleskine's coz I've not felt them before. But who cares?!). Third, they're cheapER! I got them all for...RM26!! Yep. RM26 for TWO! (Oh yeah, just in case you're still interested in getting Moleskine, the 25% discount offer is valid till 30th July I think. If not, head over to Tang's in Pavilion! muahaha They are available in Purple, Yellow and Orange colours too ;)) Now, all I need is a good, nice pair of Artline pens ;)

Mad on Moleskin??

For you writers and reporters and journalists and poets, etc. it's your lucky day today! If you're reading this post now, before 10pm on the 20th July, 2008 , quickly turn to page 17 of StarMag! Cut out the coupon and if you're still the first 10 people who present this coupon to them (Kinokuniya KLCC), you'll receive a Moleskine diary worth RM80 FOR FREE!!! But if you're not that lucky, (like me. sob sob. I'M NOWHERE NEAR THE VICINITY!!!) keep that coupon, and redeem it with a 25% discount :) I've not used a Moleskine before, but from the pictures, it sure looks darn seductive! And it sure makes me feel like writing on it forever! Arrgggh....should I get that 25% discount???? Even with the discount, it's not quite within my 'affordable range'. I mean, RM60 for a notebook? Hmm.... Or maybe because I've not checked it out myself. You know lah,...sometimes one would need to touch and feel, THEN decide ;) For more info, go to: moleskineasia.com

Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls

Image
'Ways to Live Forever' is written by a very young writer, Sally Nicholls. In this book, she writes about an 11 year old boy, Sam, who has leukaemia and who loves facts. He has a little project going on - writing a book about the best ways to live forever, while jotting down his thoughts on UFOs, ghosts, sciences, and even death. His best friend, Felix, calls him 'Charles Dickens' :) Oh, Felix is one real charmer too ;) Btw, this is one of Sam's tips on living forever: 'Make a Philosopher's Stone. (You not only get to live forever, you get unlimited gold as well)' This is the very first book, which made me smile, page after page. Nicholls is such a genius, because even at such a tender age, she is able to use a fictional character to talk about the serious side of life with a slice of humour and innocence, and yet maintain a level of honesty about it. For only RM39.90, it's definitely worth it. It has a lovely cover. and the contents? as mentioned abo

Skye likes 'Totto Chan' because...

Image
My friend, Skye, who claimed that he rarely reads, told me that the book which created a memorable impact on him was 'Totto Chan' The Little Girl at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. Skye says, "Totto Chan is a simple read and it talks about the idea of education. It shows how education can change a person's life, just by looking at a different perspective. I'd say that it isn't an 'addictive' book that hooks you from the very first page, but because it's so charming and that it's written in short chapters, you'd finish it in no time without realising. I'd recommend it to everyone, especially to those who wants to read but can hardly find the time." This is one of the reviews I got from googling: Each story is only a page or two, each a delightful narrative of how Totto-chan views the world, and how Mr. Kuroyanagi inspires the children to explore, learn, feel and have joy. There are several charcoal drawings that capture the tendern

Shalline's Thoughts on 'An Hour to Live, An Hour to Love'

Image
Shalline, my dear friend from Australia, was excited to share her thoughts on this book. Here's what she said: "Hey Babe, I have read this book before when I was having problems with my ex. It was a fantastic book, lots of good teachings about what you should treasure more in life than being upset about small stuff. Many problems can be resolved by having different attitudes toward a 'problem'. So much sorrow can be resolved by simple understanding and forgiveness.... they can be resolved by making someone smile and you smile with them... Life is short... We never know what is around the corner. Always treasure the people around us like it's our last day to live. Never regret or forget to tell someone we love them... put down your ego and pride, measure what is important other than just "ME".... For that... I want to remind you.. you are always my best friend and I treasure you heaps!!! :)" **blush** Thanks Shalline...that's very sweet of you :)

Great Girly Giftbooks!

Jinx: RM54.90, Allie Finkle's Moving Day RM42.90 When I was given these books to read, I didn't think that I'd enjoy it till I read the first few pages of 'Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls - Moving Day' . Allie wasn't too happy when her parents decided to move out because she has to leave her pink room behind, her best friend and start a new school at a new town. In this book, Allie sets her own rules for girls including 'You Can't Let Your Family Move into a Haunted House', 'Don't Put Your Cat in a Suitcase', 'If You Get A New Best Friend, It's Rude to Show Off About It', and 'Don't Be a Braggart'. There are 16 Rules altogether. I'm sure your niece or cousin will enjoy reading about Allie's experiences and adventures, and why she has such crazy rules ;) Great for: girls above 8 years old. Hey, even moms can read this, to get into the minds of your teenage daughters ;) I thought it'd be a great gift

Save Our Planet!

Very cute and creative clips from Animal Planet. It's really time for us to save our planet guys...I've already started my 'one-for-all' shopping bag. No, it doesn't look fashionable or glamourous, but at least I know I'm not contaminating the planet! What about you? Asking for 'more plastic bags' from the cashier?? Bad...baaad.... :P

Joe's Current Read

Image
My friend Joe, shared with me the current book that he's reading. It's titled 'An Hour to Live, an Hour to Love' by the famous Richard Carlson (who wrote 'Don't Sweat the Small Stuff') and his wife, Kristine Carlson. "This book is about the husband wrote a letter to his wife...for their 18th anniversary. The husband passed away few years later (I didn't know he had passed away...I was kinda sad when Joe told me about it. Not that I know the author personally but because of the what he has written in his other book, and how it has created an impact on me) ...and now his wife replied the letter. The husband's letter wasn't sad...but full of love and wisdom. I basically cried reading the letters. It'll make you think what is important...or reassure you what you think is important is true which is love...friends, family...It'll make you question, if you had one hour to live and could make just one phone call, who would you call? What wo

Winnie Loo's Favourite Reads....

Picture taken from: www.migf.com/.../Launch/GH9T5103.jpg Winnie Loo doesn't need much introduction. If you haven't heard of her, you must've been living in Mars :P The Founder of A Cut Above is one of the most down-to-earth and humble person I've ever met. With so many awards and recognition in her hands, she still holds true to herself and her loved ones. Anyway, I got to know Winnie via email and we have been keeping in touch via emails and meetings at her launches. I often approach her for interviews, opinion or even just casually drop her an email to say hi. And she has never failed to respond, despite her busy schedle. After dropping her an email on my book blog, she delightfully replies with a list of her all-time favourite reads. If you're here reading this post, Winnie, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You've been such an inspiration to me. You've made me realise that one can still be their true self as long as they know their roots and have

A Tomato Story

Image
Shared by Benny Khoo A jobless man applied for the position of 'office boy' at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. 'You are employed' he said. Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start. The man replied 'But I don't have a computer, neither an email'. 'I'm sorry', said the HR manager. If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job.' The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10Kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with $60. The man realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and retur

An embarrassing confession

My little laptop my Bf gave me on my birthday, has gotten quite some attention. One even commented, 'Wah...so rich ah. Can afford to buy new laptop for you sommore.' If you don't know us, you may think that we are some 'rich' couple. Even to me, if I were in your position, I'd think so too, considering that I know this couple has recently moved in to a new house, and is about to get married end of the year. Truth to be told. We aren't what you think we are, which was why I was greatly touched by my bf's gesture. He has been saving for months to buy me this gift. And not only that. On my birthday, he took a day off, cleaned the entire house (I promised to do the cleaning with him but never got to do it...coz I'm always either tired, or have no time :( Oh gosh,...my excuses!!! this is so embarrassing....) and arranged the little surprise dinner for me. My bf has been my pillar of strength till today. And he always believes in giving me the best of ever

My friend, has finally realised his dreams... :)

Alex, first of all, congratulations :) I am so happy for you! To those of you reading this post, Alex is one of my friends I met during my Perth days. We used to hang out quite frequently, just talking about music and arts. He was the one who introduced me to pop art and jazz. He taught me how to appreciate jazz too, though it's kinda rusty now haha But well, I still love jazz ;) Anyway, Alex has finally realised his dreams of having an established band and an album. Check out their band, nuance , at www.fearstrikesmankind.com I love their 2nd track, fear strikes mankind. Although I don't know much about alternative music, but I do know which ones/bands I like. And Nuance is definitely in my list! :D (No, it's not because my friend is in that band :P I really like their stuff) Here's the clip of the track I like :) Just in case you were wondering why am I so happy for his success, well, just so you know, Alex is also a pilot, who also, has a love life :P I used to thin

Urm.....pls forgive the arrangements of the pictures...I'm still trying to get use to this :P This is the bouquet of flowers my boyfriend bought me and got them delivered to the office. Cute bear too huh? ;) Thanks for the sweet surprise dear :D loved it! This came to me as a surprise. That's my new laptop and on that sofa, is the bag for my laptop. I've always wanted a new laptop but never thought it was necessary coz my old one was still working. But I think, my bf thought that it was time I got a new one :) My bf arranged a birthday dinner with my family members too, which was sweet. The food was great. Everyone enjoyed it. I tried my best to take as many pics as possible but urm...the food was too tempting. These are some of the considerably good pix that I managed to take :P Thanks for everything dear...mmuax! My great colleagues celebrated it with me too...but sadly, I forgot to bring my camera :( but I managed to take the pic of the cake they bought for me at home!

Men vs Women

This is funny hehe TO ALL THE WOMEN OUT THERE, have a NICE day! Believe it or not. Woman has Man in it; Mrs. has Mr . in it; Female has Male in it; She has He in it; Madam has Adam in it; No wonder men always want to be inside women! Men were born between the legs of a woman, yet men spend all their life and time trying to go back between the legs of a woman.... Why? BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME ? ! Ever notice how all of women's problems start with MEN ? MEN tal illness MEN strual cramps MEN tal breakdown MEN opause AND .. When we have REAL trouble, it's a HIS terectomy.

Keep Finding or Just...Be Contented?

A friend of mine, let's name him Sun (he wants his name to be kept private :P) was telling me about his BGR problems last night. He was feeling frustrated with his current relationship because both of them were always arguing. To solve things, he'd always have to give in by apologising, even though it wasn't his fault. I asked him if they ever talk about things that they argue about, and find out what's the problem, he said not really. I told him I thought they should, at least clarify what's the core of the problem and this may improve the relationship. He was already thinking of giving up. Then I asked him to at least talk about it first, give both of them a chance. But he thought it was already too late to make amends. Sun, I think I know what you mean and how you feel. You also asked me if being in a relationship means finding Ms./Mr. Right or just be contented with who you are. It's really tough for me to answer you this question on general terms, but if yo

Today in History

Today, is 8th of July. What were the important events that happened today, many, many years ago? I googled it, and this is what I found... 1497 Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama sets sail from Lisbon in search of a sea route to India. 1709 Peter the Great, at the head of a 50,000 strong Russian Army, defeats Charles XII of Sweden's 20,000 troops at the Battle of Poltava. Less than 2,000 Swedish soldier escape. 1776 The first ringing of the Liberty Bell in America. 1884 In Britain, the founding of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. 1889 In boxing, John L Sullivan defeats Jake Kilrain in Mississippi, USA after a total of 75 rounds. Its the last bare-knuckle heavyweight title contest. 1907 The first of the Ziegfeld Follies - spectacular music and dancing shows - is performed on Broadway at the Jardin de Paris, New York, produced by Florence Ziegfeld. 1943 World War II: French resistance leader Jean Moulin, known as 'Max', is executed by the Gesta

Victor's Ghost Story

Victor, my crazy colleague and friend, and I were talking about religion over lunch and somehow it led to the 'spiritual world'...Not that I had any encounters with 'it' before (thank God!),...but doesn't mean that I don't believe it it. Hey, I like watching 'Ghost Whisperer' =P and have always believed that 'the other side' exists :P So anyway...here is his story.... "It was 10 pm,...and I was cycling home (for whatever reason he was cycling home at that hour, I do not know, nor do I wanna know). Then all of a sudden, I felt like I hit into something, a white 'thing' but went past it. When I looked behind, there weren't anything. Although I felt a slight chill, I still decided to continue to cycle home. (The white 'thing' wasn't the scary part. But it was scary enough for me. Anyway...he continued...) "At night, when I was asleep, I kept seeing this white lady figure, with blood dripping from her eyes. And I kep

The Program Everyone Should Watch

Dear friends and family, I just managed to check my email today and this is one of the many emails which I thought I should share with you. ------------------------------ From: Ju Lin Ong < julin.ong@gmail.com >To: julin.ong@gmail.com Sent: Friday, 4 July, 2008 11:57:24 AMSubject: [WomensCandidacyInitiative2] Everywoman taken off air Dear friends, As you know I am part of the team producing the first International women's program out of the Middle East with Al-Jazeera English. From July onwards, Everywoman has been taken off air because of a directive from above. Many of our viewers have written in support of Everywoman, - a show that gives voice to women all over the world especially women in the Middle East and Asia. I have done a few Malaysian stories, one of which held the highest youtube hits of all Al-Jazeera programs - namely on the Apostasy case - Revathi who was denied access to her child and Hindu husband because she converted from Islam to Hindu, and others - cover

A very weird dream....

So, if you've read what I wrote on Zeitgeist, good. If you've seen it, even better. Now, I have even something weird to share. Some of you may know, that I'm a newly born Christian. And I must admit,...I am not the type who goes to church every weekend, read the bible everyday, and talks about him to everyone I meet and force them to go to church. I'm the 'relax' type haha :P I don't force myself to go to church. I go, well, only when my bf is around. Yeah...not a very good example. So, when dreams of Jesus appear, I dun think it's coz I think of Him alot :P So. anyway. back to my story. I had had some dreams before...Most of them, the ones about Jesus, I can remember. Don't ask how I know it was him. I just know. Anw, the latest dream was this. He came in my dream and sorta told me that He's the Only God and no others. That was the message...but I'm not too sure if those were the exact words, but I'm certain of the message. When I woke u

'Zeitgeist' provokes the mind....

Image
This, my friend, is one of the must watch documentaries of the year. I just came to know about it thru my bro. It is a very interesting documentary, I must say. It's a non-profit movie/documentary/film distributed for free. You can download it online. Zeitgeist (pronounced as: saItgaIst) is a German word for 'spirit of the age', literally translated as time (zeit), spirit (geist). This documentary centred on three parts, and pretty much sums up how the human population is enslaved in these 3 parts - Christianity, 911 and the Central Bank. Watching this, I began to question myself, if all these are true, then aren't we all living in a world of lies? Or is there no such thing as the truth? And they say, the truth will set you free. So if there's no truth, there's no freedom. Hmmm...Friends,....this means, we're all prisoners! Prisoners to who...? Watch it....watch it and you'll know what I mean.... Well...I don't know about you, but I still believe tha

If You're a Bride-to-be, PLEASE TAKE NOTE

Image
On my pre-wedding photoshoot Eve, I hope you get to read this, it's for you ;) I had had one of the most tiring day ever yesterday. If you're getting married and you're about to go for your photoshoot...please take note of certain things: 1) you MUST do your pedicure and manicure one day before your shoot, no matter how much you dislike it. (Please apply one day or half day leave to allocate enough time for this session. I didn't. So I ended up reaching home at about 11pm, when I'm supposed to be sleeping already, as we had to be at the bridal studio at 6.30am the next day!) FYI, after doing your pedi-mani, pls DO NOT do anything that requires your hands...and feet. 2) if possible, leave your hair long. OK, I have to admit this. I was so frustrated with my shoulder length hair, I had it cut a week before the shoot. Smart right? But nevermind, they can use wigs right? Yes...correct. But...what happens is, when they use wigs on you, your hair will be clipped, tied,

The Filth That Brought Fame

Image
I'm not sure if the feminists I know would turn Fechtgebiete into flames after reading it or not, (I've yet to lay my hands on it. The UK publishers are now battling to sign up this Europe's new sensation) because some say Fec htgebiete's astounding popularity has been fueled by prurient fascination. Feuchtgebiete , which translates as 'wetlands' or 'humid zones', is the first book by 30-year-old High Wycombe-born Charlotte Roche. It is narrated by eighteen-year-old Helen Memel, an outspoken teenager whose childlike stubbornness is paired with a premature sense of sexual confidence. After a failed attempt to shave her intimate parts, Helen ends up in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Maria Hilf Hospital. She doesn’t leave the ward for the rest of the novel. Surrounded by surgical instruments and humming X-ray machines, she reflects in ever more uncomfortable detail on the eccentric wonders of the female body. It’s an explicit novel, often shoc
